Yes — faded Kodachrome is one of our specialisms. Kodachrome slides from the 1950s to 1980s often develop a strong orange or magenta cast as the dye layers fade at different rates. We apply Kodachrome-specific colour profiles during scanning and can recover a surprisingly accurate representation of the original colours, even from heavily faded slides. Please mention the approximate date and condition when you enquire.

Absolutely. Just describe what you have as best you can — the size of the film, whether it's on a roll or in individual mounts, the colour (orange-brown is usually negative film, transparent is usually slides), and whether it's colour or black and white. We'll identify the format and quote accordingly. If you're unsure, a photo taken on your phone and emailed to us is often all we need.

Scanning the negative directly almost always produces better results than scanning a print made from it. The negative holds significantly more tonal and colour information than any print can capture — highlights, shadow detail and fine grain that the printing process loses. At 2400–7200 DPI, we recover that information. Many customers are amazed at the difference compared to even the best prints they had made at the time.

Yes, both. Black and white negatives are scanned with an extended tonal range to preserve detail in the deepest shadows and brightest highlights. We output them as greyscale positive images. Colour negatives are processed with appropriate colour profiles for the film stock where known, and output as positive colour images. If you have a mixed batch of both, that's fine — just let us know when you enquire.

Royal Mail Special Delivery is our recommended service for film — it's tracked, insured, and requires a signature on delivery. Place your film strips in paper envelopes or anti-static plastic sleeves before posting, and put those inside a padded envelope or small box so they don't bend or crease in transit. For mounted slides, a rigid plastic slide box inside a padded envelope works well. We'll confirm safe arrival by email as soon as your package is received and logged.

Yes — 7200 DPI is available for 35mm negatives and slides, producing a 69+ megapixel file per frame. At this resolution you'll begin to see the film grain itself, and the output is large enough for exhibition-quality printing at A0 and beyond. This is ideal for photographers who want the ultimate archival-quality digitisation of their film work, or for any frame with exceptional compositional or sentimental value. There is an additional charge for 7200 DPI scanning — ask us for a quote.

All film is returned by tracked post in anti-static protective sleeves — film strips in individual archival sleeves, mounted slides back in their original mounts or in protective plastic sheets. We log every roll and slide mount when it arrives and cross-reference the same list when returning, so nothing is ever misplaced. You'll receive a dispatch confirmation email when your package is sent.
